Happy St. Patty's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Today the babies are 4 months old in age adjusted terms. They are still not picking their heads up when they are on their bellys. So, when they say "head up by four months" does that mean when they turn 4 months, or by the end of the fourth month? I'm sure part of the reason is that we don't put them on their bellys much cause they hate it. I know I should not stress about this, because all babies are different and the range of "normal" is so vast, but of course it is in the back of my mind. It is so common for preemies to have developmental delays that it would be really unlikely that they wouldn't have ANY. So, I am not going to worry about it for now, and I am NOT going to compare them against other peoples' babies. I will just give them time, and rejoice in every new step they take.

We had an eye doctor appointment on Wednesday. Eden's eyes are ship shape and she doesn't need another appointment for 8 or 9 months. Holly's vision is also pretty good, and while she is still likely to need glasses for nearsightedness in the future, she doesn't need them yet. She does have one eye that turns in a little more than the other, called strabismus, and we are going to start patching therapy for two hours a day to correct it. I guess other people might be bothered by her patch, but we think it's cute.

(I really did start writing this on St. Patrick's Day, but duty called and I didn't get it posted until Friday)

Hi Billie,
This is Lauren, Kendra's friend. I just wanted to let you know that I had strabismus as a baby. We also did patch therapy and it worked very well. In fact, I was able to stop wearing glasses all together as a teenager. Your girls are so adorable patch or no patch, don't worry what others think. My son Noah turned 4 months on Wednesday, I hear that this is a wonderful and fun month! Take care and keep up the great work!!!! Lauren :)

Hi, billie.
I'm sure most people won't be bothered by Holly's patch...I bet she looks adorable. :) Remember, Merry had that crazy little helmet, and it wasn't so bad. :) Plus, you could decorate it up if you go out...put little flowers on it, or a smiley face. :)
They are both beautiful little girls.
Lots of love and prayers.
Kendra

Hi Billie.
I still check in all the time and am still so impressed with you guys. You continue to amaze me with the amount of love and courage that you show on a daily basis. You know, I always hated to read/hear about what my kids were supposed to be doing at various ages. If they are late, is something wrong? If they are early, are the geniuses? Anyway, I'm sure the girls will let you know when it's time to lift there heads. And as far as the patch goes, why don't you put a photo of Holland's eye on the patch. Then it will look like she is winking at everybody. Just a thought, Uncle Keith

I just remembered a tummy time trick that a friend of mine taught me. My son Noah hated being on his tummy so my friend told me to start tummy time with him propped up on his boppy. This took some of the pressure off of his belly, gave him a little elevation to look around and a soft place for his head if he put it down. This worked so well and quickly too. Give it a shot if you haven't tried this yet. The girls will like being on their bellies and looking all around in no time! Lauren :)

Billie,
Just to let you know, Brady hated being on his belly (he still gets frustrated) and he was (according to the book) late lifting his head. I still think it was because I wasnt giving him enough practice. He'd get mad and that would be it for the day. But, it all came in due time. Don't worry about it. All kids have their own speed. He also completely skipped rolling tummy to back and finally rolled back to tummy. He gets frustrated and stuck on his belly even now.
Love, Kris
