Little Miss Chatterbox

I meant to post this around Halloween, for Eden's two-year hearing age birthday, but I just can't wait. Her language is coming along SO well now! About a year ago, one of her therapists said we should start working toward get her talking on a computer because she would likely never talk in sentences. Now she has started SINGING! Seriously, she loves to sing and knows most of the words to many songs. She also listens very carefully to new songs, and picks up the words really quickly. I don't want to exaggerate, mostly she picks up the last word in each sentence, and sings that, but if you slow it down and give her a chance, she really does know more of the words than you'd think. She sang Happy Birthday to me on my bday and got almost all of the words by herself!

In this video, she is really focused on playing with two Elmos that she is holding, so she isn't paying the best attention to me. I wish I had a video of her watching the video. She thought it was so funny to watch herself, and was saying everything I was asking her to say in the video. Super cute!

I really am so proud of her. It is so amazing to me that she is profoundly deaf. Without her cochlear implant, she really cannot hear ANY speech. And now she says "I love you Mama." Amazing.

Awesome! I found it quite impressive that she's NOT paying attention to you. It's clear she is HEARING you and not relying on lip reading or body language to copy what you say. Her voice is so clear and so adorably sweet! Beautiful!

Sooooo cute! Go Eden! That is so great. The whole exchange between you and Eden is just so great even with the two Elmos. ;-)

Simply amazing to see how much she has progressed with the cochlear implant!

I know it's been said before, but it warrants repeating: she has and will continue to defy expectations!

I can't wait to see how much she will have progressed in 2 more years.

I have to make this quick b/c I have Champ on my lap and whenever the video stops he begins to cry...I think we'll end up watching this a lot tonight. He is fasinated by her in this video and strained to watch it when I was holding him over my shoulder.

She is so amazing...I especially love how she says "I love you."

Eden, you go girl!

My "normal" daughter at two did not say nearly as much as Eden does with the same hearing age.

I her sweet voice. Her singing must just melt your heart.

Great job, Eden! :-) It still amazes me when I hear Noah talk. Somedays he will be playing in his room and I'll hear him singing "Twinkle Twinkle" or his ABCs and I tear up. It's still just unreal to me that my little boy who came home from the NIU hearing nothing can now talk and sing.

This is a child who will show you over and over that those who told you she would never be able to do something were dead, flat, wrong!

Your blog is linked on almost every (micro)preemie blog I have visited and somehow I have never been to your blog before (and I am from Holland, ha ha!)

The video is absolutely adorable. Did she ever wear hearing aids (Michael just got hearing aids, so I am very interested in that)

Take care! Nathali

She is so beautiful. You can tell that she hears "I love you" a lot by the way her eyes light up when you say it... so sweet.

I love it. My son came over here while I was watching the video and sat on my lap. He pointed at Eden and said "She's pweetyyyy mammaaa!" I thought that was so adorable. My daughter recieved her cochlear implants about 3 months ago. I know I am just going to break down and cry the day I hear "I love you mama!" My son is 3 and was born a week past his due date and doesnt even talk as much as Eden does. You got me all excited now for Marley to start talking up a storm. I hope you have a blessed day.
