Introducing...

...our new baby girl!

Violet Mae
Birthday: August 3, 2012
Weight: 5 pounds, 12 ounces
Height: 18.5 inches

Violet entered the world at 9:18am via scheduled cesarean at 36 weeks and 1 day gestation. Having never really heard her sisters' cry, Violet's sweet voice was like music to our ears. Her Apgar scores were 8 and 9. Results of all prenatal testing were "normal." She passed her newborn hearing screening and her carseat test with flying colors. Spot checks of her blood oxygen saturation were 100%. We visited the NICU where Holland and Eden spent 110 days, but just to say hello and to show them our pretty new baby who would not be checking in. One of the neonatologists, who was there on the day that H and E were born, was rounding and cried happy tears seeing our new baby girl with her big sisters. Violet and mom were discharged after 48 hours, and our family of five rode home from the hospital together.

We have a take-home baby!!!

Congratulations! She is beautiful. I'm so glad everything went well.

It's kind of funny that her middle name is Mae, because that is my little sister's middle name (same spelling)...and she too was a post-micropreemie baby born via scheduled C-section at 35.5 weeks. Just an odd coincidence.

Yay! I've been watching for this. She looks like Holland! She also looks ridiculously tiny next to those girls, which must be so strange to you considering they were much smaller than she is!

Congratulations! I know you are feeling exhausted but very much at peace at being able to brings your little one home without an extended stay in the NICU. H and E will be a wonderful help to you I'm sure.

What a cutie pie!

And y'all are just the best at naming babies. I love your three names: Holland, Eden, and Violet - all so lovely, feminine, unique, complementary but not matchy. Just love them.

Would love to know what are your top boy names, since I am expecting a boy! I might need to steal them! :)

I never thought I'd say this about a baby under six pounds, but she looks absolutely, positively chubby and huge next to the girls! I'm so happy for you and your family that your dream was realized and you have a "take home" baby! I'm so glad that you took the leap of faith to add to your family since I know how long you've been wanting another baby. I hope you heal fast and well from your surgery and that Violet eats like a champ. I'm looking forward to watching her grow up with her sisters here on your blog. Congratulations!!!

I found your Blog through another CP Mom on here and have read through Holland and Eden's story - which I loved! I am from Michigan and I think I read somewhere along the way that you were as well. My son Alex has CP too.

Congratulations on your beautiful new addition. I hope all is going well. Keri

I've been thinking of you so much the last few weeks and hoping all was well - so excited to hear that everything is truly fantastic! Massive Congratulations

Alice said...

Billie, After the initial excitement, I have to comment again, just to say how amazing you look so soon after birth, how much I love the name (also love Rowan) and why did they pick 36 weeks? You are making me broody! Hope you are all settling in okay at home

Billie said...

Alice,
Thank you!

From the beginning my docs told me I would have to schedule delivery before 37 weeks. I had a classical incision with my previous csection, meaning it is vertical rather than the more typical horizontal. It was done at the time because it was believed to be safer for Eden who was breech. With a classical there is a higher risk of uterine rupture (which is usually fatal for the baby) IF the mother goes into labor. 36 weeks is just shy of full term and we were all hoping it would be a safe point and I would not go into labor before then. During the surgery my doc said that there were some thin spots on my previous incision, so we were glad to do it before anything tragic happened.

CONGRATULATIONS!! Sorry so late, I have been a bit out of blog reading of late. It is so awesome to see the pics. Such a different experience for you to be able to go through a 'normal' birth. Yay! She is gorgeous.

Oh, Happy DAy!! I haven't checked your blog in a while and was so excited to see Violet made it to full term. I'm sure many happy tears were shed that day!!!

I'll never forget how overwhelmed I was when our full termer was born and screamed! It still makes me cry, 6 yrs later.

Congratulations... a little late. She is beautiful, just like her sisters!

Hi Billie, I found your blog 4 1/2 years ago, after my own twins were born at 27 weeks. It helped me way back then, and I check in from time to time to see how you guys are doing. Your girls look amazing! And you are the strongest woman ever, to be brave enough and hopeful enough to have another baby. You have so much to be proud of. Congratulations!!

Anonymous said...

Hi there...I've been following your blog for years (since I had my own preemie twins in 2006) and every once in a while I check back here.

Congratulations on the new addition to your family...You have a lovely family, and are clearly amazing parents. I realize I only know you through your blog, but if I could vote anyone in to be mother of the decade it would be you. Congrats again, and best of luck with the new addition to your family.

Congratulations! I have stopped by your blog from time to time over the years, after my twin daughters were born at 26 weeks (they're almost 5 now). You have been such an inspiration for me. It's wonderful to see how well your adorable twins are doing and to learn that they are big sisters. We also have three girls now. After our twins, we had a third little girl, born at 35w4d (5 lbs 13 oz and 18.75 inches). It was amazing to hear her cry and hold her immediately.
